MyPressi Twist Review Step by Step

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

A handheld espresso maker? It’s hard to believe that we’ve come this far, but it’s true. The Mypressi Twist is a sophisticated piece of technology that allows you to easily (with a bit of practice) make espresso shots from a small, easy to clean, handheld espresso maker. Mypressi was nice enough to send us one of these contraptions to test out for ourselves and we will be sad to see it go. (Actually, we are totally purchasing this because it’s too cool too not own, so it’s not really going anywhere.)

parts

These are the parts we are using for ground coffee. The CO2 cartridge is already in the bottom.

When you first purchase the Mypressi Twist, there are a lot of parts that come with it. One package includes:

1 x Pressurized double-shot (14-21g) basket
1 x Standard double-shot (14-21g) basket
1 x ESE pod adaptor and single-shot (7g) basket
1 x 53mm tamper
4 x 8g N2O pressure cartridges
1 x Travel pouch
1 x Drip-catcher coaster
1 x O-ring replacement kit

Seems like a lot of stuff? Well, it’s not ALL necessary. It depends if you are using E.S.E pods or ground espresso coffee, so don’t be intimidated!

Now let me walk you through how we brewed some fantastic shots. We were using Lavazza Bar Espresso for our first try, but we have tried a few others and it really depends on what you like. Some people prefer Segafredo Casa, others cannot get enough of Lavazza Super Crema, and I’ll get back to you on what I think about Illy Medium Roast Espresso Coffee after I give it a try this afternoon in the Mypressi Twist.

First you have to decide whether you are using E.S.E pods or ground espresso coffee. We chose the ground stuff because we have more options that way, but whatever you have will work! Be sure to use a very finely ground espresso coffee so it can be extracted as quickly as possible since more surface area is showing. Here is an example of coarse grounds (used in drip coffee makers) and fine grounds (used for espresso).
coarse vs fine grinds

pre and post tampSince the Mypressi only requires 2 things to brew the espresso, a CO2 cartridge and hot water, the next thing you want to do is start boiling some water. We used a Bodem Water Kettle because it literally takes less than 3 minutes to get water at the right temperature. While the water is heating we tamp (compact the grinds with about 30 lbs of pressure using the little provided tamp tool) the coffee so it goes from a full basket to a more compact amount.

After you have completed this place the basket in the holder, add your boiling water to the top half. There is a water reservoir, which you will cover with a cap. You’re almost done! Next TWIST (aha! the name makes sense!) the water tank onto the coffee basket and handle.

final cremaLastly, press the trigger button for about 30 seconds over your espresso cup and you will be extracting 2 shots. You will know when it’s done and after you release the trigger there a hissing button that finishes off on top of the espresso and produces the most amazing crema we have ever seen!

Mypressi Twist is an amazing product. It takes a little practice to master the perfect shot of espresso, but seriously, this is an impressive little machine that is sure to intrigue guests and keep you pleased layer after layer of deliciously thick crema.

All the best of luck in your new espresso endeavors. looking to buy a Mypressi Twist?

Cafe La Semeuse: Your New Go-To Coffee

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

cafe la semeuseCafe La Semeuse. If you don’t know this name from the coffee industry, you need to know something. You are missing out! Yes, I hate to push yet another coffee brand in your vocabulary of already over-populated manufacturers, but this is one brand that needs to make its way to the  front of your frontal lobe. Cafe La Semeuse produces what they themselves call “a never bitter coffee.” How is that possible? The selectively chosen, delicate Arabica beans are roasted at higher altitudes, which in turn, allows the beans to be roasted at lower temperatures. Translation? No burt beans, no oily residue, no bitter flavor, and surprising (this is not advertised) minimal aftertaste/coffee breath. (This is huge for us who work closely with our co-workers!)

Look at that beautiful color Classique!

Look at the beautiful color of Classique!

After reading several articles about how Cafe La Semeuse is served in some of the finest returaunts and hotels in the country, I finally brewed a pot for the office. Without being prompted or told that this was a different coffee than they usually drink, everyone commented on the sweet, mild aroma. And after consumption? I got paged 4 times to be asked what I had just made. The answer? Cafe La Semeuse Classique. Looks like our office has a new go-to coffee. Isn’t time you ventured into the wonderful world of something new and delicious? We think so.

Get your Cafe La Semeuse Classique in whole bean or ground form at www.CoffeeRocket.com. You will not be disappointed. Sincerely enjoy!

Bristot Espresso Pod Review

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

bristot espresso pods I’ve tried a large variety of espresso pods, but the Bristot Espresso pods are definitely in my top 3. The flavor is always consistently smooth and not bitter like some other espressos. It has a nice round body and full mouthfeel; I rarely add anything, but it stands up very well to milk. The crema is fantastic on this one. It’s always thick–even on a lower end espresso machine. The rich flavor works really well for lattes and cappuccinos. This espresso definitely tastes like you ground the beans and tamped it yourself. Bristot Espresso Pods available in 18 count and 150 count at CoffeeRocket.com.

Dark Roasted Coffee: Friendlier On Your Stomach?

Friday, March 26th, 2010

happystomachA lot of people out there have trouble digesting coffee, but maybe they just need to try a darker roasted bean.

“German and Austrian researchers said dark-roasted coffee may contain substances that reduce stomach acid…The researchers found espresso, French roast and other dark-roasted coffee contain a substance not found in raw coffee beans — N-methylpyridium — that tells the stomach to reduce the production of acid.”

This discovery is very helpful for those who have coffee sensitive bellies. Here are a few recommendations of darkly roasted beans that might be easier to stomach than what you are used to:

If you are looking for single serve coffee in dark roasts, here are a few suggestions:

Segafredo Espresso Coffee Top 5

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Ever wonder what everyone else is drinking? Here are the top 5 Segafredo Espresso Coffees:

segafredo-logo1As far as it goes for Segafredo Espresso Coffee E.S.E pods…well, they don’t make the overall top 5 list, but that’s just because more Segafredo Espresso Coffee drinkers buy large volumes of what’s listed above. For those of you who have an espresso machine that uses E.S.E pods, the Segafredo Espresso Coffee E.S.E pod selection is slim, but they fly off the shelves so quickly, we can barely keep them in stock. So either way…enjoy!

Handpresso New to CoffeeRocket.com!

Friday, February 19th, 2010

handpressoOnce we tried the Handpresso Wild for ourselves, we knew immediately that this was something we wanted to offer to our loyal espresso drinking customers. Even more so, this product is targeted at people who are always on the go! (Who isn’t these days?) The Handpresso Wild is a small portable espresso maker that makes the most delicious shot. With this one, you can use any regular sized E.S.E pod. You know what we decided as our favorite? The Illy MonoDose E.S.E Pods in the Dark Roast. Actually, this item is on sale for another couple days. What luck!

dopepodHandpresso also has another version, the Handpresso Domepod which takes ground espresso. The Domepod and Wild both are equipped with 16-bar pressure valves, so you know this is not some rinky-dinky espresso maker. It’s like taking your intense home-bound espresso maker anywhere you want! For the Handpresso Domepod we couldn’t help ourselves. Everything tastes great in there, but we are diehard Segafredo Espresso and Lavazza Espresso drinkers, so we brewed our fair share of shots using those grinds. I believe for the Segafredo Espresso we went with the Segafredo Intermezzo and the Lavazza Espresso… well, we stuck with our Lavazza Super Crema. The crema created by the Handpresso is awesome. This was an all around winner in our books. Try it. You won’t regret this purchase. Enjoy!

Lavazza Pienaroma Espresso Review

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

lavazza pienaromaLavazza Pienaroma Espresso is one of the few espressos that sincerely does not need an addition of milk. Make sure though, that your machine is clean before you extract such a lovely bean so the smooth long pull and mild flavor stay untouched as they flow from grounds to your cup. Tastes exactly like an espresso from an espresso bar in Italy, because it is the most popular espresso in Italy, made by Italians, drank by Italians, and sold to you with the convenience of low prices from CoffeeRocket.com. The beans aren’t as dark and oily as espressos made in the US. The body is full and rich with a lasting sweetness as opposed to the often-bitter flavor found in many espressos. In addition, this espresso produces a beautiful crema. Just make sure you get this in the Lavazza Pienaroma Espresso Whole Bean bag because the aroma produced by grinding the fresh beans is part of the experience. You will want more than one shot. Enjoy responsibly!

Segafredo Massimo Espresso Review

Friday, February 5th, 2010

SEGM-2TSegafredo Massimo Espresso is a very complex espresso. With strong earthy tones and a syrupy-like texture that easily stands up to frothed milk, this espresso just screams authentic Italian. The flavor of Segafredo Massimo Espresso is relatively mild and not at all acidic. You will want more than one and won’t cringe at the often-bitter flavor left behind from an espresso shot. However, the flavor gets a bit lost in milky lattes so keep this one around for straight shots or cappuccinos. The deep golden crema on top of the Segafredo Massimo Espresso is so enticing and is achieved by both manual and automatic espresso machines. We highly recommend it. Stop by www.CoffeeRocket.com to shop for Segafredo Espresso today. Enjoy!

Lavazza Super Crema Espresso Review

Monday, February 1st, 2010

lavazza super crema Lavazza Super Crema Espresso is a very flavorful cup of espresso, so if you like a milder brew go with the Lavazza Top Class Espresso. However, if you are into an intense (intensely amazing), but definitely not bitter cup, then you have found you’re new favorite espresso. These beans are called super crema for a reason. The crema is thick and lasting. Lavazza Super Crema Espresso has great aroma; it’s so smooth and tastes just like the espresso you’d find in an authentic Italian bistro. Although the price of Lavazza Super Crema Espresso 2.2 lb bag is a bit more pricey than the generic stuff you’d find in the grocery store it’s worth every penny. Unbelievable espresso. Highly recommended.

Espresso: Did You Know…?

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010
  • vsh0419lEspresso is one of the most commonly mispronounced words. It should not be “ex-presso.” this word was borrowed from Italian well after the Latin prefix ex- had developed into es-.
  • Espresso is not a roast style of coffee. It doesn’t matter how dark the bean is, espresso has to do with how it is prepared.
  • You can use any type of coffee to produce espresso. Italians prefer medium roasts, while US west coasters like dark roasts, and US east coasters prefer lighter roasts to make espresso.
  • A fine espresso is a deep chocolatey red color covered by crema, a dark carmel-colored foam that lies on top.
  • Italians test their crema by pouring a spoonful of sugar on top. It should not sink for at least 15 seconds.

Enjoy your espresso responsibly!

Saeco Etienne Louis Espresso Coffee Machine

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

Saeco Etienne Louis Espresso Coffee MachineWhat seems to be yet another “conceptual” espresso maker has definitely made the wish list of many over the past two years that it has been leaked onto sites such as “www.appliancist.com, iwishihadthis.com & kaboodle.com” as well as many others. Though the one site with no information on this futuristic weapon-ish looking espresso maker is Saeco. Rumor has it, the price for this espresso maker runs somewhere around $2,000. But, that’s assuming you can actually find it. Will update when more information leaks, because let’s face it, this would be a perfect gift for the person in our lives who loves both sci-fi and coffee. Some familiar products you may want to try in this espresso maker, granted you’re able to get your hands on one, would be the popular Lavazza Espresso line, especially the Lavazza Super Crema Espresso. If Lavazza isn’t your favorite, despite being the #1 selling espresso in Italy, possibly a nice Segafredo Casa, or Illy whole bean espresso would be more to your liking.

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Available now are their Dark Roast, Medium Roast, and Decaf in the form of whole bean, ground coffee, ground espresso, iperespresso capusules, and E.S.E espresso pods. Lavazza_logoCoffeeRocket.com recently expanded their selection of Lavazza Espresso products, becoming one of the very few discount coffee sites to offer such an extensive variety of “Italy’s favorite coffee.” With Lavazza Super Crema and Lavazza Grand Espresso bags already a hit, CoffeeRocket.com noticed an opening in the Espresso market that most other site aren’t catering to. Not only are there several new products, but most of the them can be conveniently purchased in several sizes, starting as small as a .22 oz satchets to larger 2.2 lb. bags in either ground or whole bean form. Some of the new products added: Lavazza Espresso Tierra, Lavazza Gran Filtro, Lavazza Gran Filtro Dark Roast, Lavazza Gran Filtro Decaff, Lavazza Gran Filtro Classico, and Lavazza Dek Decaff Espresso. With such a large menu to choose from Lavazza fanatics can pick and choose new products to try without having to pay international shipping charges from Lavazza’s motherland.  In addition, CoffeeRocket.com recently put together a Lavazza variety pack so Lavazza Lovers don’t have to settle on just one choice and can have an Italian espresso shop right in their own kitchens at a super low price. Krazy for Krups!

Monday, October 19th, 2009

krupslogoCoffeeRocket.com has recently expanded their already large selection of coffee makers to include the entire line of Krups automatic drip coffee makers, grinders, espresso machines, and kettles. And guess what? Everything is at discount prices like usual. Be sure to check it all out as the site is constantly updating their inventory to stay ahead in the coffee e-commerce market.

Kettles and Automatic Drip Makers start at $59.99 saving you an average of $12.00 in comparison to other distributors.
