MyPressi Twist Review Step by Step

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

A handheld espresso maker? It’s hard to believe that we’ve come this far, but it’s true. The Mypressi Twist is a sophisticated piece of technology that allows you to easily (with a bit of practice) make espresso shots from a small, easy to clean, handheld espresso maker. Mypressi was nice enough to send us one of these contraptions to test out for ourselves and we will be sad to see it go. (Actually, we are totally purchasing this because it’s too cool too not own, so it’s not really going anywhere.)

parts

These are the parts we are using for ground coffee. The CO2 cartridge is already in the bottom.

When you first purchase the Mypressi Twist, there are a lot of parts that come with it. One package includes:

1 x Pressurized double-shot (14-21g) basket
1 x Standard double-shot (14-21g) basket
1 x ESE pod adaptor and single-shot (7g) basket
1 x 53mm tamper
4 x 8g N2O pressure cartridges
1 x Travel pouch
1 x Drip-catcher coaster
1 x O-ring replacement kit

Seems like a lot of stuff? Well, it’s not ALL necessary. It depends if you are using E.S.E pods or ground espresso coffee, so don’t be intimidated!

Now let me walk you through how we brewed some fantastic shots. We were using Lavazza Bar Espresso for our first try, but we have tried a few others and it really depends on what you like. Some people prefer Segafredo Casa, others cannot get enough of Lavazza Super Crema, and I’ll get back to you on what I think about Illy Medium Roast Espresso Coffee after I give it a try this afternoon in the Mypressi Twist.

First you have to decide whether you are using E.S.E pods or ground espresso coffee. We chose the ground stuff because we have more options that way, but whatever you have will work! Be sure to use a very finely ground espresso coffee so it can be extracted as quickly as possible since more surface area is showing. Here is an example of coarse grounds (used in drip coffee makers) and fine grounds (used for espresso).
coarse vs fine grinds

pre and post tampSince the Mypressi only requires 2 things to brew the espresso, a CO2 cartridge and hot water, the next thing you want to do is start boiling some water. We used a Bodem Water Kettle because it literally takes less than 3 minutes to get water at the right temperature. While the water is heating we tamp (compact the grinds with about 30 lbs of pressure using the little provided tamp tool) the coffee so it goes from a full basket to a more compact amount.

After you have completed this place the basket in the holder, add your boiling water to the top half. There is a water reservoir, which you will cover with a cap. You’re almost done! Next TWIST (aha! the name makes sense!) the water tank onto the coffee basket and handle.

final cremaLastly, press the trigger button for about 30 seconds over your espresso cup and you will be extracting 2 shots. You will know when it’s done and after you release the trigger there a hissing button that finishes off on top of the espresso and produces the most amazing crema we have ever seen!

Mypressi Twist is an amazing product. It takes a little practice to master the perfect shot of espresso, but seriously, this is an impressive little machine that is sure to intrigue guests and keep you pleased layer after layer of deliciously thick crema.

All the best of luck in your new espresso endeavors. looking to buy a Mypressi Twist?

Handpresso New to CoffeeRocket.com!

Friday, February 19th, 2010

handpressoOnce we tried the Handpresso Wild for ourselves, we knew immediately that this was something we wanted to offer to our loyal espresso drinking customers. Even more so, this product is targeted at people who are always on the go! (Who isn’t these days?) The Handpresso Wild is a small portable espresso maker that makes the most delicious shot. With this one, you can use any regular sized E.S.E pod. You know what we decided as our favorite? The Illy MonoDose E.S.E Pods in the Dark Roast. Actually, this item is on sale for another couple days. What luck!

dopepodHandpresso also has another version, the Handpresso Domepod which takes ground espresso. The Domepod and Wild both are equipped with 16-bar pressure valves, so you know this is not some rinky-dinky espresso maker. It’s like taking your intense home-bound espresso maker anywhere you want! For the Handpresso Domepod we couldn’t help ourselves. Everything tastes great in there, but we are diehard Segafredo Espresso and Lavazza Espresso drinkers, so we brewed our fair share of shots using those grinds. I believe for the Segafredo Espresso we went with the Segafredo Intermezzo and the Lavazza Espresso… well, we stuck with our Lavazza Super Crema. The crema created by the Handpresso is awesome. This was an all around winner in our books. Try it. You won’t regret this purchase. Enjoy!

Saeco Etienne Louis Espresso Coffee Machine

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

Saeco Etienne Louis Espresso Coffee MachineWhat seems to be yet another “conceptual” espresso maker has definitely made the wish list of many over the past two years that it has been leaked onto sites such as “www.appliancist.com, iwishihadthis.com & kaboodle.com” as well as many others. Though the one site with no information on this futuristic weapon-ish looking espresso maker is Saeco. Rumor has it, the price for this espresso maker runs somewhere around $2,000. But, that’s assuming you can actually find it. Will update when more information leaks, because let’s face it, this would be a perfect gift for the person in our lives who loves both sci-fi and coffee. Some familiar products you may want to try in this espresso maker, granted you’re able to get your hands on one, would be the popular Lavazza Espresso line, especially the Lavazza Super Crema Espresso. If Lavazza isn’t your favorite, despite being the #1 selling espresso in Italy, possibly a nice Segafredo Casa, or Illy whole bean espresso would be more to your liking.

Krazy for Krups!

Monday, October 19th, 2009

krupslogoCoffeeRocket.com has recently expanded their already large selection of coffee makers to include the entire line of Krups automatic drip coffee makers, grinders, espresso machines, and kettles. And guess what? Everything is at discount prices like usual. Be sure to check it all out as the site is constantly updating their inventory to stay ahead in the coffee e-commerce market.

Kettles and Automatic Drip Makers start at $59.99 saving you an average of $12.00 in comparison to other distributors.

Grinders start at $19.99. If you’re a serious bean grinder, this is the name brand to trust and the price is lower than what you would find at the local retailers.

Professional full-sized espresso makers start around $200. But just think, even though it’s 200 bucks, you spend more than that in half a year on specialty espresso drinks from Starbucks. Treat yourself right and impress all your friends by being a legit barista in your own kitchen. Your dinner parties will be fantastically improved by adding such a high class element to the end of the meal. Don’t forget to send an invite this way!
