The Carpuccino: A Car That Runs On Coffee

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Though this blog focuses primarily on bringing your attentions to the gourmet products that are out there, every once in awhile it’s nice to have something a little different. Most of these “other posts” are created because of links sent to me by friends or readers. Here is one that I found particularly interesting: A car that runs on coffee! Amazing! Though there are plenty of going-green-projects that are probably more deserving of press, it’s these kinds of articles that allow people to realize the endless possibilities. We’re only limited by our imaginations and lucky for these scientists from Manchester, we are able to witness something truly amazing. The graphic explains how it works, which is why it is such a large image. To break it down though, it takes about 56 shots of ground espresso to travel just one mile.

Now, I wonder if the stronger the coffee.. the faster the car? If that were the case then maybe these guys should try those new Green Mountain Revv K-cups (coming March 18) I’ve been raving about. That baby would FLY! If you plan on building your own coffee car–well, 1st off let us know! 2nd of all, feel free to peruse our large selection of “gas” in it’s glorious grounded coffee form over at CoffeeRocket.com.

2 Coffee Tables You Wish You Had

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

Yes, yes, we love our coffee over here at CoffeeAmp.com/CoffeeRocket.com. Our love for the superior beverage often reminds me of a BagelBites jingle from half a decade ago–obviously replacing the critical word “BagelBites” with “Coffee..”

“Coffee in the morning, coffee in the evening, coffee at suppertime… (When coffee’s on a bagel….)” Okay so it stops making sense toward the end, but basically we are loyal coffee drinkers round the clock. So, after a long day at the office what is more refreshing then a cup of coffee, and of course, a magnificent coffee table to rest your mug upon. Whether you’re enjoying an espresso after dinner (Lavazza Super Crema is the tops) or simply using your single serve coffee maker to brew a quick Flavia Coffee, these are just 2 of the coffee tables we just think are out of this world.

Arabic Coffee by Naomi Shihab Nye

Monday, January 4th, 2010

Someone recommended I take a look at this poem. They had a hunch I might like it. Well, I love it and wanted to share it as a New Years present. Something a little different for today. Enjoy. And remember, Arabica coffee is top quality, which is why so many brands like Flavia Coffee, Keurig K-Cups, Tassimo, and Nescafe Dolce Gusto all make sure they clearly label their packages with “100% Arabica Coffee.” Unless, of course, it’s a blend, which usually includes a mix of robusta and arabica beans. More on robusta vs. arabica here

Arabic Coffee

It was never too strong for us:
make it blacker, Papa,
thick in the bottom,
tell again how the years will gather
in small white cups,
how luck lives in a spot of grounds.
Leaning over the stove, he let it
boil to the top, and down again.
Two times. No sugar in his pot.
And the place where men and women
break off from one another
was not present in that room.
The hundred disappointments,
fire swallowing olive-wood beads
at the warehouse, and the dreams
tucked like pocket handkerchiefs
into each day, took their places
on the table, near the half-empty
dish of corn. And none was
more important than the others,
and all were guests. When
he carried the tray into the room,
high and balanced in his hands,
it was an offering to all of them,
stay, be seated, follow the talk
wherever it goes. The coffee was
the center of the flower.
Like clothes on a line saying
you will live long enough to wear me,
a motion of faith. There is this,
and there is more.

Red Espresso—the Future of Tea or at Least the Latte

Friday, December 4th, 2009

REDESP-2Red Espresso is a drink with a very interesting characteristic. It’s not an espresso at all, but a delicious tea that has 5x the health benefits of green tea with the ability to be prepared like espresso. This semi-new drink, first produced in 2006, looks like the segue drink between dedicated coffee drinkers looking to gain the health benefits of tea without having to give up their beloved mixed concoctions.

Red Espresso is made by extracting a specially ground rooibos tea through a normal espresso machine. It produces a very similar crema, body, and intensity that you would find in a regular espresso. “The red espresso won Best New Product in the Specialty Beverage Category at last year’s SCAA exposition as well as the Global Food Award for innovation at the IUFoST (International Union of Food Science and Technology) convention in China last October—for effectively launching the first tea to perform as an espresso.”1

Look out Lattes, there’s a new competitor looking to get topped with froth and it’s not what you’d expect, but something you will certainly love. Fortunately this Red Espresso is sold at CoffeeRocket.com, so get some and try it out yourself.

World’s Biggest Cup of Coffee

Monday, November 30th, 2009

In the United States, where bigger is better when it comes to portion sizes, it’s a wonder we have not yet embarked on a journey to beat this record. In 2007, Mauricio Cadavid brewed the largest cup of coffee containing 1,095 gallons, which is 17,520 8 oz. cups  of coffee in Medellin, Colombia on October 11, 2007.

Earlier that same year on April 8th, the record was set in Ha Noi, Vietnam by Vinacafe Bien Hoa, the biggest coffee producer of that area. The cup they unveiled contained 952 gallons, which equaled 15,232 8 oz cups. But, it was made with instant coffee, so it doesn’t seem as impressive as the actual Arabica beans ground down for the cup made in Colombia.

Although the record from Panama in April of 2007 only totaled 750 gallons of fresh brewed coffee, they provide a video. Fun!

The Coffee Nap

Monday, November 16th, 2009

Caffeine addictions aside, most people drink coffee to stay awake. Especially at work when you’re in a static position for much of the day, it’s only normal that you begin to feel drowsy, particularly during that 2-4 PM slump. Well, help is on its way! There is this thing called the “Caffeine Nap” or “Coffee Nap.” Sounds peculiar, but it’s so simple and sounds utterly amazing.  All you do is drink a cup of coffee and immediately after consuming it you nap for 15-20 minutes. Do not sleep for more or less time, otherwise the effect will not be as powerful as intended. This short amount of sleep combined with the caffeine kicking in as soon as you wake up is said to be the most revitalizing nap of your life. Now, just make sure you check with the boss before snuggling under your desk mid-afternoon.

Concept Eco Friendly Coffee Machines

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

solar-coffee-makerThough, this solar powered coffee maker is not yet on the market due to (in)convenience, functionality, and cost, this is still something amazing worth sharing. One of the major concerns of why this product hasn’t been mass-produced is because people wouldn’t wait forever for this space machine to gain enough solar energy to boil water. My, oh, my, that would take awhile! This concept machine designed by Gun Ho Lee probably won’t be making its way to getting a corporate label on it solar-powered-coffee-maker-buttons-459x264anytime soon, but after a few improvements it may just happen sooner than we think.
