10 Things You (Probably) Didn’t Know About Coffee

Next time you’re enjoying a cup of java with your friends, be sure to drop some of this coffee knowledge on them. It’s interesting and impressive!

  1. Coffee is actually picked off trees in the forms of red berries. Inside the berries lie the beans, usually 2, called pips.
  2. Coffee is the second most popular drink in the world; water is the first.
  3. Coffee is the second most widely traded commodity in the world; oil is the first.
  4. The majority of coffee growers only earn 4 cents for every pound they harvest.
  5. Worldwide there are more than 1400 million cups of coffee consumed every day.
  6. In 1675 Charles II, King of England issued a proclamation banning Coffee Houses. He said that they were places where people met to plot against him.
  7. Dark roasts have less caffeine than light roasts. A large part of the caffeine is burned off during longer roasting times.
  8. Coffee increases the effectiveness of painkillers.
  9. It takes about 40 coffee beans to make a cup of espresso.
  10. Black Coffee has zero calories and no sugar.
